Solomon Systech Sponsors WWF Ocean’s 10 Campaign Launches Buses Carrying Winning Designs of Ocean’s 10

To raise public awareness of marine conservation

(Hong Kong – 8 June 2006) -The winning designs of WWF Ocean’s 10 Bus Design Competition sponsored by leading flat panel display IC company Solomon Systech (International) Limited (“Solomon Systech” or the “Group”, SEHK: 2878) will be carried by three Ocean’s 10 buses running around Hong Kong starting today to draw public attention on Hong Kong’s marine species under threat by the degrading marine environment. Timed to coincide with World Ocean’s Day today, the launch is aimed at raising public awareness on local marine conservation issues.

The Ocean’s 10 Bus Design Competition, sponsored by Solomon Systech, opened in January for participation by students as well as members of the public. More than 5,000 entries depicting concerns for the local marine environment were received in three months.

Mr. Humphrey Leung, Managing Director, Solomon Systech (International) Limited, said, “Solomon Systech shares the same vision with WWF in protecting the marine environment. We have cooperated with WWF in different marine protection projects to promote and educate both our staff and the public to care for our environment. This Bus Design competition has not only given our children the canvas to show their artistic creativity, but has also raised the awareness of the community on marine life. I am really impressed by the winning designs and am sure, with the winning designs painted on buses, the campaign will successfully draw public attention in environmental protection.”

Winning titles of Primary and Secondary section went to 11-year-old Lau Ching Fung, Kwai Ming Wu Memorial School of The Precious Blood (PM), and 17-year-old Ho Ka U of TWGHs S.C.Gaw Memorial College respectively whereas Chan Ying Lee triumphed the Open section.

WWF kicked off the Ocean’s 10 program last year featuring 10 marine species found in Hong Kong waters to raise public awareness on the marine environment. Solomon Systech is the title sponsor of the campaign. The “Ocean’s 10” marine species are Brain Coral, Chinese Bahaba, the Chinese White Dolphin, the Green Turtle, the Hong Kong Grouper, Horseshoe Crab, Mudskipper, Sea Grass, the Purple Sea Urchin and the Yellow Croaker. Their information and unique stories including their biology, fun facts, threats and conservation status can be found on the newly launched Ocean’s 10 website at www.wwf.org.hk/oceans10.
