Solomon Systech Launches SSD2075 – The Ideal Solution For HD Smartphone Applications

Supporting HD720 High-Definition Amorphous (a-Si) Panels

(Hong Kong – 11 June, 2012) Solomon Systech today announced the launch of SSD2075, a liquid crystal display driver for high-definition amorphous silicon (a-Si) panels using gate-in-panel (GIP) technology. It is the ideal solution for HD smartphone applications.

The smartphone market has expanded exponentially in recent years, with an increase in display size and enhanced image quality and definition. Most of the HD720 (720RGB x 1280) solutions in the market today deploy AMOLED and LTPS technologies. The use of these solutions, however, is constrained by production capacity and the relatively high cost. SSD2075 contributes to the production of high-definition panels using conventional amorphous silicon, so that the supply is guaranteed and the cost is highly competitive. By adopting SSD2075 to a 4.5” panel, the display module will be 326ppi which is one of the best solutions in the smartphone market. SSD2075 has a small amplitude interface (MIPI DSI) to transfer mass data at a high speed. It also supports low-power operation and is therefore ideal for smartphone applications.

Moreover, with SSD2075, images are displayed by the newly developed Display Enhancement Engine, which enables color (saturation) enhancement, contrast enhancement, sharpness enhancement, sunlight readability enhancement and color correction functions, making the images as vivid and clear as those adopting AMOLED and LTPS high cost display.

The competitive features of SSD2075 include:

(1)  Support Wide Range Of Resolutions and Panels

To cater to different customers’ needs, SSD2075 supports a wide range of resolutions including:

Resolution Portrait
HD720 720 RGB x 1280 dots (Android Smartphone)
HD QWERTY 720 RGB x 720 dots (QWERTY Smartphone)
DVGA 640 RGB x 960 dots
WSVGA 600 RGB x 1024 dots

(2) Excellent Display Enhancement Functions

SSD2075 has the color (saturation) enhancement function, which allows images to be displayed at a saturation equivalent to the original image when the transmittance of panels with thin color filters is increased and the number of backlights is reduced to save power. With the facial detection function, natural colors, like skin color, can be kept even when a high saturation setting is applied. In addition to color saturation, the Display Enhancement Engine in SSD2075 can also further enhance the sharpness, contrast and sunlight readability in order to achieve the excellent display quality by a-si silicon technology. Unique color correction functions divide the display zone into SKIN, TREE and SKY. SSD2075 can control each of these sub-zones independently to achieve the best display performance of skin, tree and sky.

These display enhancement functions can greatly increase the display performance on the traditional a-si LCD display. With In Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology, SSD2075 can provide the best solution of LCD display for smartphone application.

(3) Reduce Power Consumption by 60%

SSD2075 has the Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) function, which automatically adjusts backlight power by analyzing and calculating display image data. This function lowers the backlight power by 60 percent on average.

Furthermore, SSD2075 applies the advanced gate pre-charge driving scheme which fulfills GIP without visual degrade. This allows the GIP circuit to operate in the most power effective way and largely reduce the power consumed due to gate switching during data transfer.

4 lane MIPI-DSI is adopted in SSD2075. Small amplitude MIPI interface is one of the key factors to achieve high speed data transfer with low power consumption.
