Systech Contributes New Design Environment Success's
To
Cadence's Tools and Services
Hong
Kong, 28 April 2000 - Cadence Design Systems, the world's
leading supplier of electronic design products and services,
and Solomon Systech Limited today announced the co-operation
between the two companies leads to the success of a full
range LCD driver / controller IC new products worth at least
50 million US dollars business in 2000. Cadence Design
Systems provides dedicated design tools and services to
Solomon Systech since Solomon Systech spun-off from Motorola
Semiconductor Products Sector on 1 July 1999. Including at
least 11 LCD driver / controller ICs, from SSD181X series,
supporting 132 x 32 to 132 x 64 mux display, to SSD182X and
SSD185X series, supporting 128 x 64/80 mono or grey scale
display, for portable telecommunications products and
consumer applications such as cellular phone, PDA and smart
handheld devices, the IC products were designed, developed
and proven successfully in only 6 months time with the help
of different Cadence electronic design tools and services.
"Cadence tools provide an user friendly design
framework environment," said Dr. Stephen Lai, Director
of Design Operations in Solomon Systech Limited. "All
softwares, including Verilog(R)-XL simulator,
Virtuoso(R) schematic composer, Virtuoso(R)
layout editor, Dracula(R) layout verification and
EnvisiaTM silicon ensemble, share one single
framework database which allows us make archive easily on
our IC design data with accuracy and security on the day
we
transferred from Motorola SPS to Solomon Systech. "When
it comes to the new product development during the company's
startup, Cadence's quick start service on EnvisiaTM silicon
ensemble trained our layout on use of the leading edge auto
place and route tool," Dr. Lai explained. "In
addition, we are facing different process requirement and
layout rules from various foundries, Cadence's
Parametric/Programmable basic cells (PCELL) helps us to
build the layout block efficiently and minimizes the
difficulties in wafer fabrication site transfer. Overall
layout process cycle time is shortened by more than
10%," said Dr. Lai. "Time to market is very
critical and the local support provided by Cadence's Hong
Kong office eliminated all down times during our transition
from Motorola and helped in our success in getting the
business growth this year with all these new products."
Before
the end of 1999, Cadence assisted Solomon Systech to
migrate to a new framework for Y2K compliance. From
2000 and
onwards, the two companies continue the co-operation for
the success and contribution in the emerging technology
industry
in Hong Kong.
