SOLOMON
SYSTECH LIMITED ANNOUNCES A NEW SERIES OF
SINGLE CHIP SEGMENT & COMMON LCD DRIVER / CONTROLLER
CHIPS
FOR PORTABLE TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND CONSUMER APPLICATIONS
A
New Series That Support 128 x 64/80 Mono or Gray Scale LCD
Display
Hong
Kong, April 25, 2000 - Solomon Systech Limited today
announced a new series of LCD controller / driver ICs, part
number SSD1820/1 and SSD1850/1, highly integrated with
all
the advanced features, for new design of portable
telecommunication products and consumer applications. The
LCD driver / controller ICs were designed and developed by
the Solomon Systech development team located in Hong
Kong, which was formerly a professional team in Motorola
Semiconductor Products Sector. The series of LCD drivers
supports 128 x 64 or 128 x 80, monochrome or gray scale STN
LCD display with fast speed interface and universal command
set, tailor made for telecommunication products such as
cellular phones, PDA, smart handheld devices and other
portable consumer products.
Better
Display
The SSD1820/1 and SSD1850/1 are capable of driving 128 x 64
or 128 x 80 dot matrix monochrome or gray scale STN LCD with
an extra icon line. The bigger display is
perfect to show pop-up menu, calendar, appointments and
notes, and the gray scale function brings fun in greeting
page, games, watermark or screen saver with company logo,
signs or fancy cartoon characters. With an unique
bandgap reference circuit developed in this series of LCD
driver, the devices provide stable display contrast
independent of VDD input while maintain ¡Ó2% (typ.)
high voltage output chip-to-chip variation.
Better
Electrical Performance
Power
consumption in display mode is as low as 0.36mW, with
1.8V VDD operation voltage, 5x on chip DC-DC
converter and typical current consumption of only 200µA.
Connection pins can be as few as only 11 input pins, with
3-wired serial interface, internal divider and internal bias
enabled. With programming multiplex ratio and display
offset control, pseudo animation is possible at low power
standby situations. In addition, advanced design in high
speed communication interface (at maximum 17MHz serial
interface or 6MHz parallel interface), the devices perfectly
match the requirement of the latest, fast DSP or MPU
protocol, a definite need in the next generation portable
telecommunication products system design.
Technical
Specifications
The SSD1820/1 drive 128 x 64/80 plus one icon line
monochrome STN LCD while the SSD1850/1 drive 128 x 64/80
plus one icon line gray scale STN LCD. Operating in
low voltage 1.8V to 3.5V, the ICs provide on-chip 2x, 3x,
4x, 5x or up to 6x voltage generator for at most +15V high
voltage output while current consumption is less than 1µA
in low current sleep mode. The
devices provide selection on high speed serial interface
at 17MHz or parallel interface at 6MHz maximum, with industrial
standard command set.
Other
features include LCD drive voltage temperature compensation
at 8 selectable coefficients, 64 levels
internal contrast control, programming multiplex ratio from
16 mux to 65/81 mux, programmable bias ratio from 1:4
to
1:9/1:11 bias, display offset control, vertical scrolling,
re-mapping of row/column drivers, on-chip display data
RAM
and on-chip oscillator.
The SSD1820/1 and SSD850/1 are manufactured in CMOS process,
available in gold bump die (slim die design) for COG
applications and TAB (Tape Automatic Bonding). Samples
of SSD1820/1 are available now and samples of SSD1850/1 are
available in May at sample price US$4.0 for gold bump die,
US$5.0 for TAB. For detailed information and product
