(Hong
Kong - 17 January 2006) - Solomon Systech
(International) Limited ("Solomon Systech" or
the "Group", SEHK: 2878) a leading flat panel
display IC company announced that it has taken up major
sponsorship of the WWF "Ocean's 10" campaign,
which aims to raise public awareness of the diversity of
Hong Kong's marine life and habitat. The campaign's new
website and a Bus Design Competition, as part of this
3-years campaign, is officially launched today by WWF
and Solomon Systech.
"Ocean's
10" was launched by WWF last June to provide
interactive education programs based on 10 selected
marine species found in Hong Kong waters. This education
campaign is designed to enhance public awareness of Hong
Kong's marine conservation issues, such as environmental
degradation, unsustainable harvesting and pollution.
Solomon
Systech has always been a good corporate citizen showing
great concern to environmental protection. The Group
gives continuous priority to caring about the community,
as well as maintaining a sense of social and
environmental responsibility. Solomon Systech has
ensured that all of its products fully comply with the
European Union's Restriction on Hazardous Substances
Directive ("RoHS") in order to protect the
environment.
At
the launch ceremony today, Mr. Humphrey Leung, Managing
Director of Solomon Systech, said, "As a socially
responsible corporation, Solomon Systech is dedicated to
a "Green" environment. We have been working
with WWF on environmental protection initiatives since
the 'Ghostnet Clearing' activities last October to
remove from our seabed tonnes of abandoned fishnets that
pose serious threats to marine life. We strongly support
the intentions of WWF and are very pleased to be the
campaign's major sponsor. We believe environmental
protection requires effort from every individual and we
should start educating future generations when they are
young. We sincerely hope that the message of
environmental protection will spread to everyone in the
community, that Hong Kong can be made a better place to
live in."
The
bus design competition is open to primary and secondary
schools and public groups. The theme of the competition
is "Ocean's 10 and Marine Conservation" and
participants are suggested to use the elements of
Ocean's 10, underwater wildlife of Hong Kong, marine
habitats and marine conservation in design the
"Ocean's 10" bus.
The
"Ocean's 10" marine species are Brain Coral,
Chinese Bahaba, the Chinese White Dolphin, the Green
Turtle, the Hong Kong Grouper, Horseshoe Crab,
Mudskipper, Sea Grass, the Purple Sea Urchin and the
Yellow Croaker. Information of the Ocean's 10 and the
selected species' own unique story about the biology,
fun facts, threats and conservation status can be found
on the newly launched Ocean's 10 website at www.wwf.org.hk/oceans10.
